WSoc: Vaqueros’ Grimaldo gets goal in 1-1 tie at Pierce

Sandy Grimaldo scored her fifth goal of the year in the 24th minute on Tuesday afternoon but L.A. Pierce got the qualizer in the 71st minute and SBCC settled for a 1-1 tie in a WSC North women’s soccer match in Woodland Hills.

Hannah Martin got the assist for the Vaqueros (5-3-2), who mainted their hold on first in conference with a 2-0-1 mark. Pierce is 5-2-4 and 1-0-1.

The Vaqueros had 15 shots and 12 of those were on goal. Grimaldo dribbled around a defender and beat the keeper for a 1-0 lead.

“We outplayed them,” said coach John Sisterson. “If we had take care of business, it could have been 3-0 or 4-0. Lena Gustafsson had three good chances in the last 15 minutes and Sandy was constantly attacking on the flank.”

The Vaqueros will play at Moorpark on Friday at 4 p.m., then return home to face Cuesta on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 2 p.m.
