GVB: Cate sweeps Carpinteria to claim first-place in Tri-Valley

In a matchup of the top two teams in the Frontier League, Cate came out on top with a big road victory over Carpinteria. The Rams swept the Warriors 25-15, 25-22, 25-14 on Thursday night.

Cate, No. 1 in CIF Division 4A, was consistent and aggressive in the first match en route to winning 25-15. However, Carpinteria nearly pulled out the second match only to fall 25-22.

Outside hitter Shannon Callaway led the Warriors with seven kills and five digs. Middle blocker Jamie Brooks had three kills and setter Adriana Morales provided 15 assists. JV call-up Gabriel Rigonati chipped in three kills and three digs for Carpinteria.

Delaney Mayfield pounded 15 kills, Maddie Becker had 11 kills and Jillian Rogers added five for Cate.

“It was a good night of playing,” Cate coach Greg Novak said. “We were missing a starter, but everyone stepped up and played well.”

With the victory, the Rams take sole possession of first-place with a 6-0 record.

Carpinteria now sits in second place with a record of 5-1 in league.
