Local water polo players to play in FINA World Cup

Four local players have been selected to USA Senior water polo teams for the FINA World Cup.

Dos Pueblos alum and current Stanford player Conner Cleary was chosen to the men’s squad for the World Cup in Almaty, Kazakhstan, Aug. 19-24.

The women’s team rosters includes DP alums Sami Hill (UCLA) and Kiley Neushul (Stanford) and Santa Barbara High alum and World Cup and Olympic gold medalist Kami Craig. Hill and Neushul will be playing in their first World Cup. Neushul was an alternate on the 2010 team that won the championship in Christchurch, New Zealand. This year’s tournament is in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, Aug. 12-17.

Craig, Hill and Neushul were members of the gold medal-winning U.S. team at the FINA World Super League final in China in June.

The U.S. women face South Africa (Aug. 12), Australia (Aug. 13) and Hungary (Aug. 14) in group play.

The men’s team is in a tough group with South Africa (Aug. 19), Montenegro (Aug. 20) and Serbia (Aug. 21).
