BTen: Fast start paces Dons to first-round victory

Santa Barbara High roared out to a 6-0 start and rolled to a 14-4 win over visiting Glendale in a CIF Division 1 boys tennis first-round playoff match on Wednesday.

The Dons extended the lead to 11-1 before coach Greg Tebbe cleared his bench and substituted most of his players in the final round on a hot day.

The victory sets up a second-round match with top-seeded University on Friday in Irvine.

Senior Morgan Hale led the way in singles, winning his two sets at the No. 1 position. The Dons went 9-0 in singles.

In doubles, Jackson Powell and Miles Hale went 2-0 before being subbed out in the third round.
