UCSB Rec Sports hosting bowling tournament benefit at Zodo’s

The annual Briner Bowl Bowling Tournament hosted by UCSB Recreational Sports will be held on Friday, April 25th in honor of Chad Briner, a former UCSB student and Rec Sports staff member who helped found UCSB Recreational Sports’ Gauchosplay website in 2008. Sadly, Chad passed away the summer before the project was completed.

The Chad Briner Memorial Student Staff Development Fund was set up in his honor. Net proceeds from the tournament and 10% of all food and beverages purchased at Zodo’s will be donated to the fund.

The tournament will be played in Baker Format featuring five-person teams. In this method of team play, all members of a group bowl together to make one game, earning one combined score. Player #1 will bowl frames 1 and 6, player #2 will bowl frames 2 and 7, etc.

“The Briner Bowl is a great opportunity for alumni, current students, staff and faculty to kick off Alumni Weekend in a relaxed and playful environment,” UCSB Recreation Department Student Event Coordinator Brenda Lear said. “I look forward to this event each year to witness people reconnect with old friends and make new friends while sharing laughter and enjoying a bit of friendly competition.”

The Briner Bowl will be from 6-8PM at Zodo’s Bowling & Beyond, located at 5925 Calle Real, Goleta, CA 93117. Check in begins at 5:45PM. The tournament is open to the general public with 24 team spots available. Registration forms are available at the Rec Sports Office or online at the Recreation Department Website. Registration cost is $20 for individual players or $100 for a team of five. Fees include bowling, shoes, and prizes.
