TRK: Scarvelis posts PR at Trabuco Hills Invitational

Dos Pueblos’ state champion Stamatia Scarvelis extended her personal-best outdoor throw in the shot put on Saturday, reaching 53 feet and 5 1/2 inches at the Trabuco Hills Invitational.

It’s especially noteworthy for being the sixth-best distance in American high school history. Scarvelis did it on her third throw.  The Dos Pueblos senior also won the discus and was named Female Field Event Athlete of the Meet.

Scarvelis’ throw in the discus went 157’4″. Both performances are the best in California this spring.

Scarvelis spoke with Rich Rodriguez of PrepCalTrack.com.

“I’m happy with the big throws — I also had two at 52-11 — but there’s still some things I’m not putting all together,” Scarvelis said. “On each one, I was doing differently things not competely right. If I can string everything together, then a ‘big throw’ will happen.”
