TRK: Royal girls win last event to tie Ventura

The San Marcos girls 4×400 relay delivered in the clutch, and the Royals gained a tie with Ventura, 63.5-63.5, in a Channel League track and field dual meet on Wednesday.

The quartet of Jill Fisher, Erica Schroeder, Delaney Werner and Emily Allen electrified the San Marcos team by winning the meet’s final event, pulling the Royals even with the Cougars. Their time was 3:59.86.

“This was one of the best high school meets I’ve been involved in,” San Marcos coach Marilyn Hantgin said. “I’m so proud of my girls.”

Schroeder had a big meet for the Royals. She ran :58 on her leg of the relay, won the 800 (2:18.82) and finished second in the mile (5:11.33).
