BKC: Alan Williams earns All-American recognition

Williams was named Big West Player of the Year after leading the Gauchos to a 21-9 overall record and 12-4 in the league. He led the conference in both scoring at 21.3 points per game and rebounding at 11.5 per game. In fact, Williams finished the year as the nation’s leader in rebounding.

“Big Al had a huge year for us,” said UCSB head coach Bob Williams. “He did everything we asked of him and then some. I’m very happy that he has received All-American recognition, it is well-deserved.”

Williams was a First Team All-District choice by both the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. His USBWA honor was particularly impressive because all of the other players on the team were either from a Pac 12 school or San Diego State.

During the 2013-14 campaign, Williams recorded 16 double-doubles, the most by a Gaucho player in 23 years. He was named Big West Player of the Week a record six times, giving him a record-tying eight such honors in the last two seasons.
