GBK: Melgoza earns share of Channel MVP honor

Amber Melgoza went from the role of a rebounder as a freshman last season to a go-to player as a sophomore for Santa Barbara High’s girls basketball team.

And she excelled in her new role.

Melgoza was recognized as the co-Most Valuable Player in the Channel League with Ventura senior Marki Meyer.

Melgoza scored in double figures in every league game and had a high of 27 points in a win over Buena. Her season averages are 21.6 points per game and 7.7 rebounds. She shot 44 percent from the field and 72 percent from the free-throw line.
