Jon Sigurdson finished a free kick from Jessie Jimenez with eight minutes remaining to lift Dos Pueblos to a 1-0 win over a full-strength San Marcos squad in a Channel League boys soccer match on Monday.
“He was Jonny on the Spot tonight,” DP coach Matt York said of Sigurdson. “It was fitting that a senior got the game winner on our Senior Night.”
Dos Pueblos had two goals on set pieces nullified and hit a few shots off the post.
The win raised DP’s records to 15-3-3 overall and 4-1-2 in Channel League.
The Chargers faced a San Marcos team that for the first time this season had all its players.
“I felt this was the best soccer we’ve played all year,” San Marcos coach Rob Lauderdale said. “Our boys came out determined to fight until the end and they did just that. Both teams fought hard and it was a very physical game.”
San Marcos completes is season Tuesday at Ventura. DP plays its regular-season final Thursday at home against Ventura.
