Super Saturday Showdown.

It’s what they’re calling a high school soccer showcase between Santa Barbara and San Marcos this Saturday that will feature six soccer matches between the rival schools.

The lower levels have games at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., followed by the varsity boys game at 3 p.m. and the varsity girls game at 5 p.m.

Saturday’s games are all at Santa Barbara High’s Peabody Stadium. The event will repeat itself at San Marcos’ Warkentin Stadium on Saturday, February 8.

“In a time when fundraising is crucial to the success of any program, we thought this would be an innovative and fun way to do it,” said Joyce Brisby, one of the organizing parents.

There is a small gate fee that will go towards supporting both of the high school’s soccer programs. The Royals and Dons have 240 student-athletes participating in soccer between them.

Saturday’s varsity games are crucial to the Channel League standings. The Dons’ boys team, ranked No. 7 in CIF-ss Division 1, are undefeated so far at 3-0. The San Marcos girls (0-1-2) will be hungry for their first league win; Santa Barbara (1-1-1) is slightly ahead in the standings.
