Nevin, Gleeson named All-State from SBCC

SBCC linebacker Morgan Nevin has earned a spot on the California Community College All-State football team for the second straight year. He was joined on the Region 5 defensive unit by teammate Tim Gleeson.

Nevin, a 6-1, 230-pound sophomore from Truckee, Calif., was No. 1 in the state in tackles with 139. His average of 15.4 per game was nearly five more than the No. 2 tackler. He set a school record with 28 tackles, including 10 solo, on Nov. 2 against Santa Monica.

Nevin, who recently accepted a scholarship to Sacramento State, also led the Vaqueros in tackles for loss (11.5), sacks (6.5) and fumble recoveries (3). His 80-yard fumble return in Week 2 was the Vaqueros’ longest touchdown of the year.

As a freshman in 2012, Nevin was an All-State pick and ranked No. 1 among Southern Cal tacklers with 118.

Gleeson was the top punter in Southern California and No. 2 in the state with a 40.3-yard average. The 6-2 sophomore from Australia was also No. 1 in Southern Cal with 21 punts inside the 20-yard line.

The Vaqueros went 7-3 this year and posted their highest win total in 22 years.
