BSoc: Shorthanded Royals fall to Oxnard

A depleted San Marcos boys soccer team gave up five goals in the second half and suffered a 6-2 loss to Oxnard on Thursday.

The Royals played without 10 key players who were out with either an injury or illness, according to coach Brian Lauderdale.

“Too many injuries finally took their toll,” said Lauderdale, who had two more players go down in the second half. “We emptied the bench and just couldn’t keep up with the Oxnard attack.”

“We’ve played six games in the last seven days and it showed tonight.”

The Royals played well in the first half and took a 1-0 lead. After Oxnard tied the score early in the second half, San Marcos was awarded a penalty kick and Kevin Uribe converted it for a 2-1 advantage.

The shortage of players then took its toll on the Royals, and Oxnard ran away to the win.
