CIF Football Pairings: Bishop Diego, Carpinteria must travel in Northwest playoff

CIF Pairings were released on Sunday for the Southern Section’s Northwest Division playoff, with local teams Bishop Diego and Carpinteria receiving at-large bids.

Both teams will travel for their playoff openers on Friday, as third-seeded Bishop Diego is at North Torrance and Carpinteria goes to Del Rey League champion La Salle.

NORTHWEST DIVISION PLAYOFF BRACKET

The Tri-Valley League – in which Bishop Diego and Carpinteria play – has all five teams in the 16-team bracket. League champion Oak Park is the top seed and will host Bishop Montgomery. Nordhoff, the No. 2 team and defending Divisional Champion,?will host Verbum Dei.

Bishop Diego enters the postseason having just trounced Mission Prep 39-14 on Friday. The Cardinals rebounded after losing consecutive games to Oak Park and Nordhoff. Their playoff-opener is intriguing as it’s a rematch from last year’s CIF semifinal. North Torrance ended Bishop Diego’s title hopes and undefeated season with a 28-14 upset victory before losing in the championship to Nordhoff.

Carpinteria faced Oak Park in its final regular season game and challenged the Division’s top team, holding a fourth-quarter lead before losing 42-35. The Warriors are matched up with La Salle, who is 9-1 and winners of seven straight. The Lancers from Pasadena scored less than 30 points in a game just once this season.
