Howland to spend time with San Marcos student-athletes

Former UCLA basketball coach Ben Howland will speak to the San Marcos High  student-athletes on Monday, Sept. 16th at 2 p.m. in the Maury Halleck Gymnasium.

Coach Howland will be speaking about a number of subjects, including the importance of academics, making good choices and being good citizens.

Howland coached the storied UCLA program for a decade, leading the Bruins to three consecutive Final Fours. He is also one of the few coaches to take three different schools to the NCAA Tournament (UCLA, Pittsburgh, Northern Arizona).  Howland was also an assistant coach at UCSB from 1982-1994, working for Ed DeLacy and Jerry Pimm.

Howland attended Dos Pueblos High School before moving to the L.A. area, where he was a two time All-CIF player at Cerritos High School. He then played at Santa Barbara City College before transferring to Weber State.
