Bennett-Evans capture Santa Cruz Open title

East Beach locals Dillan Bennett and Miles Evans won the California Beach Volleyball Association?s Santa Cruz Open on Saturday, beating Todd Hollenbeck and Brice Dahlmeier in the final, 28-20.

It?s the second CBVA open tournament championship for Bennett in Santa Cruz and his third title overall this summer. Last month, he teamed with John Hancock of East Beach to win in Santa Cruz and captured the National Collegiate Sand title in Long Beach with Jordon Dyer.

Evans, 23, and Bennett, 22, are alumni of Dos Pueblos. Evans just completed his collegiate career at UCSB. Bennett is the boys varsity volleyball coach at Laguna Blanca School and girls junior varsity volleyball coach at Santa Barbara High.

The two players earned AAA ratings together last year with a third-place finish at the Marine Street Open in Manhattan Beach.

In the women’s tournament, cousins Katie Spieler and Torrey Van Winden finished second and earned their AAA rating.
