Forester pitchers continue to throw blanks

The Santa Barbara Foresters again jumped out to an early lead Sunday afternoon and held it throughout on their way to a 3-0 win against the California Warriors, extending their win streak to eight to start the 2013 season.

The shutout at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium made it 20 straight innings of scoreless baseball for the Forester pitching staff.

Continuing the theme from Saturday’s game, the Foresters scored a pair in the first inning on timely hitting. Steven Reveles singled to lead off the game for the Foresters and Austin Darby laid down a perfect bunt single down the third base line to put men at first and second with one out.

Predictably, both Reveles and Darby took off and slid into third and second, respectively. A Shane Crawford sacrifice fly scored Reveles and Ben Johnson smacked a single with two outs to score Darby.

In the fourth, Michael Deceglie also hit two-out single to score Ben Johnson who reached on a double to lead off the inning.

Forester starter Tejay Antone threw five innings of no-hit baseball before Warrior Alex Boeri hit a ball deep to shortstop Keaton Jones and the threw could not beat Boweri to the bag. Antone’s day would end after six innings pitched, while striking out eight. The TCU righty only allowed one hit and two walks on his way to his second win of the season.

Local products Brendon Shoemake and Brian Murphy closed out the game for the Foresters. SBCC’s Shoemake threw two innings and struck out two and Westmont’s Murphy earned the save as he pitched the ninth struck out one.

Reveles, the current hits leader for the Foresters, finished 2-for-4 and scored a run. Darby also went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Johnson finished 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and walk.
