BB: Dons’ Grandcolas holds Buena to two hits

Gabe Grandcolas and Santa Barbara High’s baseball team won a pitcher’s duel in Tuesday’s Channel League matchup with Buena, taking the decision 1-0 with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Grandcolas and the Dons overcame Buena’s Addison Pelupessy, who held Santa Barbara scoreless through six innings.

The Dons scored the winning run on a wild pitch that scored Zach Torres from third base. Torres was a pinch-runner for Tanner Guerra, who led off the bottom of the seventh with a double.

The result improves Santa Barbara to 5-2 in the league standings while Buena falls to 4-6. Dos Pueblos remains at 6-1.

“We had a few chances to give Gabe a lead but were frustrated by Addison until the bottom of the seventh,” reported Dons assistant coach Mike Cooney. “It was unfortunate either pitcher had to lose.”

Grandcolas earned his fifth win with a complete-game two-hitter.

The same two teams play again on Friday.
