Dos Pueblos softball hasn’t missed a beat with Veronika Gulvin on the mound.
Gulvin, who replaced the graduated All-CIF pitcher Hannah Harris (Fresno State) as the Chargers’ softball ace, fired a no-hitter and struck out 18 against Righetti in the championship game of the Simi Valley Tournament on Saturday. The Chargers won 1-0 in eight innings. A passed ball with runners at second and third scored the winning run. Alyssa Lewis scored the run with Chloe Madill at the plate.
It marked the first time since 2005 that DP has won the Simi Valley Tournament title.
In the semifinals, Gulvin blanked Simi Valley on a 3-hitter and struck out 12.
Gulvin, a sophomore, was named the MVP of the tournament; Madill was named the top offensive player and catcher Haley Peterson the top defensive player.
Lewis, Monica Salas, Madill, Madison Buie and Peterson were chosen to the all-tournament team.
Saturday’s performance capped a big week for Gulvin. Earlier, she fanned 11 in a 1-1, 10-inning tie against Camarillo. She finished the week with 41 strikeouts, only one run allowed and just three walks.
