Ten: Singles sweep send Gauchos to victory

NORTHRIDGE – UC Santa Barbara dropped the doubles point on Saturday afternoon, but roared back to sweep all six singles matches in a 6-1 Big West win over Cal State Northridge.

Erica Cano got the Gauchos started with an easy 6-2, 6-0 win over the Matadors’ Jessica Warren at No. 6.  Four other UCSB players recorded sweeps.  No. 2 Kiersten Meehan swept Anna Yang, 7-5, 6-3 to give her team a 2-1 lead.

Paola Cos and Stacey Yam each needed tiebreakers in the first set, but they also swept.  Cos defeated Sabrina Man-Son-Hing 7-6 (3), 6-3, while Yam topped Corinne Schnyder, 7-6 (3), 6-3, to give the Gauchos an insurmountable 4-1 lead.

April Scatliffe battled to a three-set win over Anna Yang at No. 1.  Scatliffe topped her opponent 6-3, 4-6, 10-7.  Priscilla Garcia also needed three sets to defeat Lorraine Cheung at No. 4, 6-3, 6-7 (3), 10-6.

The win improves the Gauchos overall record to 6-3 and their Big West mark to 2-2.  They will travel to Arlington, Texas next weekend for a Mar. 2 match against Stephen F. Austin and a Mar. 3 contest against Texas-Arlington.
