MPSF 200 Medley Relay belongs to Gauchos

MONTEREY PARK,  – On the opening night of the MPSF Championships at East Los Angeles College, the UC Santa Barbara women’s swim team started the week off right by winning the very first event of the meet.

The opening night featured only two events, the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay.

Allie Knight, Sophia Yamauchi, Andrea Ward and Katie Tomkinson showed up prepared and won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:40.28. It was a close race but UCSB was able to edge out UC Davis who finished in 1:40.42. The time for the Gauchos is their fastest this year in the 200 medley relay.

In the 800 free relay, UCSB took a third place finish behind Heren Alanis, Ward, Anne Peanasky and Micaela Velasquez in a time of 7:21.76. This time was well ahead of the season best for the Gauchos once again.

Through the two events so far UCSB finds themselves in second place with 72 points. UC Davis is in first with 74 points. In third place is Hawaii with 64 points.

Thursday will feature a full day of events beginning with the 500 freestyle at 11:00 a.m. Diving will open up its competition with the three-meter dives.
