Local student-athletes make college commitments

A handful of local student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent on Wednesday, signalling their college destinations.

Dos Pueblos seniors Anthony Spiritosanto, Nico Bornand and Jordan Degraffinreid, with head coach Nate Mendoza, at Wednesday's signing ceremony.

Those that had not yet made their decisions public were Jordan Degraffinreid, Nico Bornand, and Michael Spiritosanto from Dos Pueblos football, and Collin Powell and Andrew Griffin from SBCC Football.

Bornand, an All-CIF talent who excelled at linebacker, tight end and kicking, is the one football player making the jump to NCAA Division 1. Bornand will be attending UNLV to play for the Rebels in the Mountain West Conference.

The football programs at Dos Pueblos and SBCC hosted signing ceremonies, as did Cate school for soccer star Joshua Yaro.

Dos Pueblos distance runner Bryan Fernandez had previously announced Oregon as his college of choice.

Yaro had decided on defending national runner-up?Georgetown in January. Cate hosted a signing ceremony on Wednesday at a school-wide assembly.
