San Marcos High School’s Anastasia Kunz was recognized at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Luncheon as the Royals’ Phil Womble Award recipient.

The Round Table presents the Phil Womble Ethics in Sports Award to student-athletes who demonstrate the highest standards of ethics and sportsmanship. Each school selects a junior on an annual basis.

“It’s been an honor to participate in San Marcos athletics,” Kunz said. “All the coaches, all the students, all the athletes that participate are really fun to be around and are a pleasure to work with. The coaches are really motivational and very helpful, always willing to offer advice on anything I ask, so thank you.”

Kunz carrries a 4.7 GPA and has completed 175 hours of community service while at San Marcos. The junior is also the Vice President of both the Apple Academy and the Humanitarian Awareness Club.

In athletics, Kunz was a member of the Channel League champion girls volleyball team in the fall and competes for the varsity track team in the Spring.

“Stasy is a model for all young women,” said San Marcos coach Marilyn Hantgin. “She is confident, hard working, caring, genuine, and above all, beautiful inside.”

In the audience were Anastasia’s parents, San Marcos principal Ed Behrens and Mr. Phil Womble himself.
