GBK: Lions make second straight D6 Final

The Providence Hall girls basketball team is back in the CIF Finals.

The Lions endured a long drive to Hesperia and blew out the Hesperia Christian Patriots 61-29 in a CIF Division 6 semifinal game on Saturday night.

Providence Hall lost to Orangewood Academy in last year’s Division 6 final.

Sydney Hedges was a force Saturday night, scoring 29 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. But Hedges had plenty of support. Lizzy Beebe gobbled up 16 rebounds, Olivia Johnson tallied 16 points and guard Lacey Gonzalez scored 11 points, dished of six assists and had five steals.

Providence Hall (18-5) raced out to a 16-6 lead in the first quarter and led 31-11 at halftime.

The Lions, the No. 2 seed in the division, will play No. 4 Rio Hondo Prep in the championship game on Wednesday at the Anaheim Convention Center. The time will be determined on Monday. Rio Hondo Prep defeated top-seeded Valley Christian Academy in the other semifinal.
