GWP: Vega, Warriors stop Cate

Vanessa Vega stopped 21 shots from Cate on Friday, helping Carpinteria’s girls water polo team hold off Cate 13-6 in a Tri-Valley League match.

The Warriors led 8-2 at halftime after outscoring Cate 7-1 in the second quarter.

“Cate adjusted well at half, but we were able to hold on with great team defense and our goalie had her best game of the year,” reported Warriors head coach Bryan Swarm.

Hope Grant’s six goals were a team-high for Carpinteria. Maddie Brooks added three scores.

Caroline Montgomery led Cate with two goals.

The Warriors, who play Nordhoff next, improve to 3-1 in league.
