GBK: Slow first half costs San Marcos

Amanda Swezey got Nordhoff off to a fast start and San Marcos couldn’t match the Rangers’ scoring and dropped a 55-37 non-league girls basketball game on Saturday.

Swezey scored 23 points, 12 of them coming from the free-throw line.

“We started off slow and didn’t get going until the second half,” San Marcos coach Devin Uyesaka said. “It was a close game in the second half.”

Lexi Zamora scored 10 points and Roxy Sandoval added nine to pace the Royals (5-12).

“I love how my girls kept competing,” Uyesaka said. “What hurt us throughout the game was us settling for jumpers. We have lanes, we need to attack them.”
