FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

Dos Pueblos (5-2, 1-0) at Ventura (4-2, 0-0), 7 p.m. — Helmets better be strapped on tight for this Channel League clash between two heavy-hitting defenses. DP has shown more on offense than the Cougars, but it will be tough to get yards against the defending champions, who are coming off a bye week. The outcome of this game could come down to a field goal. The Chargers have a good kicker in Nico Bornand. The pick: Dos Pueblos.

Buena (4-3, 1-0) at San Marcos (1-6, 0-1), 7 p.m. — San Marcos will crown a homecoming king and queen, pay tribute to its seniors and see a lot of Buena running back Chris Beeson. He was the difference maker in the Bulldogs’ win over Santa Barbara last week, rushing for 133 yards and a touchdown. The pick: Buena

SATURDAY

Santa Paula (1-5, 0-1) at Bishop Diego (6-0, 1-0), at SBCC, 7:30 p.m. — Second-ranked Bishop Diego is coming off consecutive emotional wins against San Diego power Santa Fe Christian and crosstown rival Carpinteria. The team needs to keep its focus if it wants to play for the Tri-Valley League championship. Santa Paula has shown it can score a lot of points, but it’s also been porous on defense. The pick: Bishop Diego
