Dons take fourth at North-South Challenge


Santa Barbara High’s boys water polo team fell to a pair of CIF-SS Division 1 powerhouses on the final day of the North-South Challenge.

The Dons lost 7-5 against second-ranked Loyola in the semifinals and dropped a 13-10 decision to No. 3-ranked Los Alamitos in the third-place match.

Evan Robertson scored 3 goals and Cristian Bridley added 2 against the Cubs. The scores was tied 4-4 at halftime, but Santa Barbara was outscored 3-1 in the second half.

Coach Mark Walsh said Skyler Matthews played a great defensive game against Loyola’s leading scorer, Chancellor Ramirez. Matthews also had a goal and two assists.

In the third-place game, the scored was tied 6-6 before Los Alamitos went on a 4-1 run in the third period to pull away from the Dons.

Bridley and Robertson both scored four goals, and Nate Hunter had a good all-round game, said Walsh.

Santa Barbara hosts Buena on Tuesday.
