Ross, Alzina fastest to ascend Pier to Peak

Jonathan Ross was the first runner to reach Gibraltar Peak on Sunday morning in the Pier to Peak Half Marathon in a time of 1 hour, 44 minutes and 36 seconds.

Marcelo Mejia was second and Matt Skenazy came in third.

Amy Alzina won the women’s race in 1:52.16.

The runners began at Stearns Wharf before dawn and climbed 4,000 feet in 13.1 miles to the finish in the mountains above Santa Barbara.

Twenty runners eclipsed the two hour mark and 371 were able to finish the race.
