Dos Pueblos’ defense did its part in Friday night’s season opener against Santa Ynez, shutting out the visiting Pirates while producing points of its own in a 12-0 victory.

The Chargers first put points on the board in the first quarter on a safety. In the third period, an interception by Malcom Cellard-Farrall was returned for a touchdown but didn’t stand due to a holding penalty.

LeShon Bell provided Dos Pueblos’ lone offensive touchdown, breaking free for a 70-yard scoring run in the second quarter.

Dos Pueblos (1-0) didn’t win its first game until Week 8 last season. The Chargers can improve to 2-0 next Friday in a game at San Luis Obispo, which will be playing on a day’s less rest because the Tigers’ Week Zero game is Saturday against Bakersfield’s Garces.
