Chargers survive Tigers in SLO

Malcolm Cellard-Farrall caught the winning touchdown pass from LeShon Bell in the third quarter, and the Dos Pueblos defense stopped a two-point conversion attempt by San Luis Obispo to escape with a 21-20 non-league football win on the road Friday.

San Luis Obispo pulled to within one after a 79-yard touchdown run by Cole Bradley. The Tigers went for a two-point conversion and were stopped DP’s defense.

The Chargers are 2-0 under first-year coach Nate Mendoza, while San Luis Obispo suffered its second straight one-point loss.

DP’s winning touchdown came on an 18-yard passing play from LeShon Bell to Cellard-Farrall with 6:40 remaining in the third quarter.

Dylan Rohde scored DP’s first touchdown on a 14-yard run to tie the score at 7-7.

After quarterback Garrett Giovanneli put SLO back into the lead with an 8-yard TD pass, Bell answered with a tying touchdown for the Chargers on a 4-yard run.

DP’s defense did a good job containing the scrambling Giovanneli, holding him to 46 yards rushing.

Dos Pueblos plays Cabrillo on Friday.
