Cardinals keep it going with 9th straight

Bishop Diego kept the pressure on its Frontier League foes on Friday, dumping Santa Paula 8-1 after already securing the league title on Wednesday.

The Cardinals did not experience a letdown but instead scored seven runs in the first four innings.

Nolan Tooley earned the victory on the mound for Bishop Diego, with JD Yonke pitching the final two innings in relief.

Tooley struck out five and allowed one unearned run. Yonke pitched two hitless innings with one strike out.

Offensively, Jack Gregson and Scott Mandrell both recorded a single and a double. Mandrell drove in two runs and Joe Salda one.

It’s the ninth-straight victory for Bishop Diego (16-3, 9-1), which is the No. 3 team in Division 6.
