Seemann, Crisp-Jones start well at Ojai

SBCC’s Miles Seemann and Joshua Crisp-Jones each won a singles match on Thursday and teamed up for a doubles win to reach the Round of 32 at the 112th Ojai Tennis Tournament.

Seemann, the 10th seed, had a bye, then knocked off Luis Castruita of Chabot 6-1, 6-0 to improve to 13-1 on the year. He’ll face Chris Nguy of Cerritos — the only player he’s lost to — on Friday at 8 a.m. at Pacifica High in Oxnard.

Crisp-Jones, seeded 12th, also had a first-round bye. He beat Jake Bernard of Saddleback 6-1, 6-1 in the Round of 64. Crisp-Jones will face Dylan Cleary of Ventura on Friday at 8 a.m. at the Oxnard Tennis Center.

Sebastian Vestberg, SBCC’s third player in singles, routed Aly Douangphachanh of Fullerton 6-0, 6-1 before falling to No. 3 Alex Johnston of Foothill 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles, Seemann and Crisp-Jones are seeded No. 8. They blanked Fabio Cruz-Chris Jones of Palomar 6-0, 6-0 to advance to the Round of 32. They’ll take on Oscar Diec and Gabino Sanz of Foothill on Friday at 12:30 p.m. at Pacifica High.

Vestberg and Troy Akin were eliminated by Yasuto Miyawaki-Kevin Nakasone of El Camino in a very close Round of 64 match, 7-6 (5), 4-6 and 10-8 in the pro tiebreaker.

On the women’s side, Sophie Angner had a first-round bye, then beat Priscilla Malagon of Imperial Valley 6-0, 6-2. Angner will take on Brianna Wood of Victor Valley on Friday at 8 a.m. at Camino Real Park.

Talia Hudson and Henrietta Spetz won a pair of matches. Hudson, a former Santa Barbara High star, lost just one game while defeating Kaitlyn Mitchell of Victor Valley 6-0, 6-0 and Lupita Sandoval of Grossmont 6-1, 6-0.

Hudson will take on Emma Sheehan of Ventura at 8 a.m. on Friday on the Ventura College courts.
Spetz downed Ellisse Herrera of Long Beach 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round and slipped past Tiffany Johannsen of Cuyamaca 6-4, 7-5 (5) in the Round of 64. Spetz will face Jessica Worring of Ventura on Friday at 8 a.m.

In doubles, Angner-Hudson are the No. 1 seed. They had a bye on Thursday and will battle Mercedes Guerriero-Kentra Merriweather of San Diego City on Friday in the Round of 32 at 12:30 p.m.

Spetz and Megan Thomas dropped their first-round match to Emma Sheehan-Victoria Vo of Fullerton 6-1, 7-5.
