The rain clouds moving into the area created a dramatic backdrop for Wednesday's Nite Moves.

Todd Booth, Walker Bell and Jason Smith were victors at Wednesday’s season-opening Nite Moves event in Santa Barbara.

All three won their respective races comfortably. Booth secured the 5k run with a time of 16 minutes and 52 seconds. Bell won the 1k ocean swim in 13:22.

Smith recorded times of 14:27 in the ocean swim and 22:37 in the 5k run to become the first to complete the aquathon.

In total, 259 athletes participated in the first Nite Moves of the year. The weekly run/swim is hosted every Wednesday at Leadbetter Beach.

Matt Klonowski and Jacob Fulton finished second and third, respectively, in the 5k run.

Laura Turner was the top female competitor in the 5k run, finishing 15th overall with a time of 19:34.

The season-opener took place under a threatening cloud cover but the imminent wet weather held off just long enough.

It is so great that there is consistent coverage of these great events along with other endurance events in the area but it is often the case that such articles highlight the men’s performances while barely mentioning the women’s performances. In this article it is the three men’s winners that get the pub while only one of the women’s winner is mentioned (as if in passing). The another women’s victor is at least pictured with a tag on the pic that names her as a winner, and the third woman victor is not mentioned at all.  Although men and women race at the same time, there are always two different races occurring, the men’s race and the women’s race. In this article, there should have been an additional sentence added at the beginning for the three women that won their races:  Laura Turner, Olivia Smith and Adrienne Hengels.
