Final race leads Royals to a one-point victory

The San Marcos boys track and field team edged out Dos Pueblos by one point on Thursday with their 4×4 as the last event on the Chargers’ track.?Cole Erickson, Victor Sanchez, Cameron Cruikshank and David McBride made up the team that clinched the Royals victory with a time of 3:29.65.

“It was a really exciting meet that came down to the last race,” said DP coach Leslie Roth.”Unfortunately we were on the losing end of it.”

However, all wasn’t lost for the Chargers whose girls team managed to beat out the Royals 82 to 45.

Dos Pueblos distance runners Addi Zerrenner and Bryan?Fernandez each added 15 points to the boys and girls team with three first places each in the 1600, 800 and 3200. Dos Pueblos boys also took second and third in the 1600 and 3200.

Dos Pueblos boys high jump also swept with athletes?Philip Spadoro (6-0), Brina Bieza (5-10) and Kyle Cordes (5-8).

The Chargers weren’t the only team with sweeps this meet however, as McBride, Greg Peterson, and Jonathan Wilson took first, second and third in the boys 300-meter hurdles. McBride, who was on the 4×4, also won the 110-meter hurdles and the 200.

On the girls side, Andi DeRogatis,?Natalie Klapp and?Niema Poindexter also did well winning two events each for the Chargers.
This meet was the last dual meet of the season for San Marcos and Dos Pueblos. Qualified individuals from the teams will move on to compete in the Channel League Championships next Thrusday.
