Yamauchi opens NCAA Championships with the 200 IM

Sophomore swimmer Sophia Yamauchi opened competition at the NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship on Thursday at Auburn’s James E. Martin Aquatics Center.

Yamauchi competed in the 200 individual medley, which is the first of three events she will be swimming at the championships. She posted the 44th best time during the morning’s preliminary swim, touching the wall in 2:00.44. Only the top-16 swimmers qualify to swim in the evening.

Yamauchi will be back in action on Friday as she tackles the 100 breaststroke. Sophomore Andrea Ward will swim the first of her two events, the 100 butterfly, tomorrow.
