San Marcos has impressive day despite loss

The San Marcos track team had an impressive showing in its home meet against Ventura, but lost in the both the girls and boys meets.

“We competed with a very talented Ventura team,” head coach Marilyn Hantgin said. “I’m very optimistic for the rest of our season.”

In the boys events, Greg Petersen had an excellent day, winning two events and finishing second in one. He blew by the competition in the 300 meter hurdles (41.43) and the 100 meter hurdles (16.66). He was the runner-up in the triple jump (40’8″).

For the girls, Kaitlyn Kuehn and Kaylin Koopmans stood out. Kuehn finished second in both the mile (5:21) and the 800 meters (2:31). Koopmans won the 200 meters (27.12) and the 400 meters (60.09) while also anchoring the winning 4×100 meters relay team.

San Marcos will compete in the Easter Relays on Saturday at SBCC.
