Royals hand Santa Ynez its first tennis loss

Petar Jivkov swept this singles sets to remain undefeated on the season, and San Marcos eked out a non-league tennis win over Santa Ynez on games Thursday, handing the Pirates their first loss. The Royals won 77-72 after the teams deadlocked at 9-9 in sets.

Jivkov improved to 12-0 and teammate Owen Lincoln moved to 6-0 after sweeping his three sets against the Pirates.

Freshman Oliver Piltch proved to clutch for the Royals, winning a key game off Santa Ynez No. 1 player Joe Herman. Jake Wheelock and Ramin Parvin also earn important wins. They took their final set to a tiebreaker and their six game victories were enough to make the difference.

San Marcos (3-1) plays Laguna Blanca on Monday.
