Carpinteria opened defense of its Tri-Valley League boys soccer title on a sour note, falling at Oaks Christian, 4-0, on Monday

Andrew Delaplane scored a hat trick for the Liones (5-3-1, 2-0-0) and Matt Scipione added one goal.

Carpinteria created several chances, but Oaks Christian got solid play from goalkeeper Christian Campat, who made five saves.

The Warriors fall to 5-6 and 0-1 in league.
