Late run not enough for Warriors

The Carpinteria boys basketball team made a fourth quarter run to pull within three points of Grace Brethren, but the host weathered the storm and defeated the Warriors 69-57.

Carpinteria started slow and struggled to deal with a raucous home crowd in Simi Valley.

“We didn’t have enough energy when we first started the game,” head coach Johnny Ward said. “They have an excellent home court advantage there.”

Kyle Millhollin led the Warriors in scoring with 14 points. Andrew Sova and Jordan Robinson were also productive offensively with 13 and eight points respectively.

After trailing for the majority of the game, Carpinteria hit three consecutive three-pointers in the fourth quarter to pull within three points of Grace Brethren, and forced the home team to call a time out.

The Lancers came out of the break strong and went on a 10-0 run to seal the Warriors’ fate.

Carpinteria (1-2 Frontier League, 2-12 overall) will play next against Bishop Diego at home on Wednesday.
