Rams score four goals in 12 minutes, beat Royals 5-0

The Cate boys soccer team broke through the San Marcos defense in the 21st minute to start a 12-minute goal-scoring frenzy to put the score at 4-0 by halftime. Cate would go on to score one more in the second half and win 5-0 at home.

“This was the most complete game played by our team this season,” head coach Dave Mochel said.

Sophomore Shuta Kobayashi started the scoring with his first goal of the season by tapping in a rebound off Jeff Acheampong’s shot.

Acheampong was not finished as he would move deftly past three Royals’ defenders and score just four minutes later. The freshman was at the center of the action against just six minutes later as he played a ball onto Avery Schwart’s foot, and the senior captain put the ball in the back of the net.

Ema Boateng finished off an impressive half for the Rams by beating two defenders and scoring Cate’s fourth goal.

Boateng tallied one more goal ten minutes into the second half and the Rams’ defense tightened up to protect its shutout.

Cate (3-1) will break for the holidays and continue its season at home against Carpinteria on January 4.
