PHOTO GALLERY: Meet the 2011-12 Gauchos

PHOTO GALLERY INTRO: UCSB’s men’s basketball team began its season on Saturday night with an exhibition matchup with San Francisco State at the Thunderdome. Before an announced crowd of 2,343, the Gauchos outlasted the Gators 67-51. Orlando Johnson did not play for UCSB, but the crowd was introduced to six new Gauchos who saw playing time. James  Nunnally

James Nunnally was active on both sides of the floor in his team-high 29 minutes of playing time. Nunnally scored 13 points and dished out six assists. Nunnally was also on target from long range, sinking 3 of his 4 attempts from long range.

Orlando Johnson, left, sat out the exhibition because of a sore achilles. Bob Williams said Johnson could have played if needed and that he is expected to play in the Guachos' season opener on Friday.

UCSB newcomer Nate Garth, who is a transfer from New Mexico, started at point guard but couldn't find his shot, missing all six of his field goals.

UCSB's John Green

John Green led the Gauchos in scoring on Saturday night with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting. The freshman added eight rebounds in 19 minutes.

UCSB Thunderdome

The official attendance was 2343, but a late arriving crowd made it the largest crowd for an exhibition opener in recent memory. UCSB's official season-opener is next Friday when the Gauchos host Chapman at the Thunderdome.
