UCSB held on to second place in the Big West standings and will host UC Davis in a semifinal match of the conference men’s soccer tournament on Wednesday night at Harder Stadium.
UC Davis and UC Riverside played to a 1-1 in a regular season finale on Saturday at Riverside. The result left the Aggies (5-3-2, 17 points) one point behind UCSB (6-4-0, 18 points) in the standings. Riverside (4-3-3, 15) finished fourth and will play first-place UC Irvine (6-3-1, 19 points) in the other semifinal.
Wednesday’s winners will play for the tournament title and automatic NCAA berth on Saturday at the site of the highest remaining seed.
UCSB (13-5-1) is the defending tournament champion. The Gauchos have beaten Davis twice this season, 2-1 in overtime at Davis and 3-1 at Harder Stadium. They’ve won four straight conference games after starting out 2-4.
