The Carpinteria football team followed Alex Rodriguez’s electrifying running ability on Friday night. While Fillmore attempted to play catch-up, the Warriors cruised to a 40-14 road victory.
Rodriguez, along with fullback Jeffrey Moorhouse, controlled the tempo of the game as Fillmore was unable to contain the two backs in the Tri-Valley League opener for both teams.
Rodriguez finished with three touchdowns, and Moorhouse with two.
Along with the strong running game, the defense flew around the field and dominated the Fillmore offense, causing several turnovers.
“The key to the game was our defensive play,” Warriors head coach Ben Hallock said. “We came out and really set the ton and shut them out for nearly three quarters.”
Rodriguez saved his best run for Carpinteria’s last score when he zig-zagged across the field to reach pay-dirt from 40 yards away.
“He must have run 110 yards,” Hallock said about the run.
The Warriors improved to 5-1 on the season and 1-0 in leauge. They play at home against Santa Paula next Friday night.
