Cleveland Browns center and former San Marcos High star Alex Mack is recovering from an appendectomy. The Pro Bowl center was released from Cleveland Clinic on Wednesday, two days after undergoing the surgery.

Browns spokesman Neal Gulkis said Mack is “resting comfortably at home and continues to progress well in his recovery.”

Mack played all 87 snaps in last Sunday’s 31-13 loss to Tennessee. He was suffering from stomach pain and needed intravenous fluids before the game.

The Browns have a bye this Sunday. Their next game will be Oct 16 against the Raiders in Oakland, which will be a homecoming for Mack, who played collegiately at Cal. He has made 36 consecutive starts since the Browns drafted him in 2009.

Former Santa Barbara High basketball star Taylor Rochestie helped his club Le Mans Sarthe Basket of France sweep a two-game series from Turkey’s Pinar Karisyaka to earn a spot in the Eurocup.

After winning the opener, 80-73, in Istanbul, Le Mans returned home and scored a come-from-behind 80-78 victory.

Rochestie scored 15 points and had 10 assist in the second game, and sparked the comeback from a 10-point deficit with an alley-oop pass to French international Charles Kahudi for a slam dunk.

Rochestie started the fourth quarter with a jumper to pull Le Mans within six.

In the 80-73 win in Istanbul, the former Don had 17 points and six assists.

Disc golfers will join the club-carrying ones at Montecito Country Club on Monday, Oct. 17 for the fourth annual William Wiersma Golf and Disc Tournament.

The event benefits the William Wiersma Memorial Scholarship Endowment at Westmont College.

The following year, the Wiersmas established the scholarship to honor the principles of collaboration for which Will stood. This year, the tournament coincides with the fifth year reunion of Will’s graduating class.

Golfers tee off at 1 p.m., following a light lunch at noon. Hors d’ oeuvres will be served at 6 p.m., while awards and prizes are handed out. Greens fees are $150, $115 for recent college graduates (’06-’11) and $75 for current students. To register, please visit www.willstourney.com.
