Santa Barbara’s Lakey Peterson has made it to the big leagues of professional surfing.Peterson has earned one the coveted 17 spots on the ASP Women’s World Tour for 2012. The World Tour is the elite professional competition for women.Peterson learned of the selection on Wednesday. Backed by its biggest crowd this season, UC Riverside upset visiting No. 7 UC Santa Barbara, 3-1, on Wednesday night in both teams' Big West Conference opener at the UCR Soccer Stadium in front of 2,016 fans.With the loss, UCSB drops to 6-2-1 on the season and 0-1 in league games. SBCC ran into another ranked women’s volleyball team on Wednesday night and dropped a 25-16, 25-20, 25-14 decision at Bakersfield.The Renegades, rated No. 22 in California, improved to 6-4 while the 25th-ranked Vaqueros fell to 2-8. SBCC enjoyed a breakthrough on Wednesday with a 1-2 finish at the fourth WSC women’s golf tournament.Haley True, a freshman from Santa Barbara High, fired a 3-over-par 75 at Diamond Bar GC to take medalist honors. Teammate Nicole Bullemer was second with a 77. Chavez leads way for Warriors win in league opener

Last Friday’s weather-suspended football game between Carpinteria and Santa Ynez will go in the record book as a victory for Santa Ynez, based on a CIF rule.Santa Ynez was leading 21-0 at halftime of the non-league game at Carpinteria when a thunderstorm rumbled through the area.
