Ortega medals for first time in league opener

Saralisa Ortega was the medalist for the first time this season in Santa Barbara’s league opener against Buena.  The Dons won the match 229-263 at Montecito Country Club.

“She put in quite a bit of work at practice. She is hitting the ball pretty far,” Santa Barbara head coach Ryan Throop said.

Isabella Doub, who had led the Dons throughout the preseason, was one stroke off her teammate’s pace and finished with a score of 42.

While the match belonged to Santa Barbara, the shot of the day belonged to Buena’s Lizzy Barminski, who had an eagle on the first hole.  Barminski drove the ball about 110 yards off the hole on her first shot, then used an 8-iron to bounce in her second shot.

The Dons continue Channel League play on Tuesday against San Marcos.
