Video: A look at the long course of S.B. Triathlon

After months of preparation, hundreds of athletes will descend on East Beach Saturday and Sunday to test themselves in the annual Santa Barbara Triathlon.

Athletes have a choice of two courses.

The long-course event is on Saturday at 7 a.m. It consists of a 1-mile ocean swim, a 34-mile bike ride to Carpinteria and back and a 10-mile run to the Mesa area and back.

The sprint course (500-meter swim 6-mile bike, 2-mile run) on Sunday will have a co-ed race starting at 7 a.m. followed by a women’s-only event at 8:15.

This year’s triathlon beneficiary is Partners in Education, an organization dedicated to improving education for students in an innovative and unique way.
