Matthew Pate shot a 45 for nine holes at Birnam Wood to take the first-round lead in the 11-12 age division of the Santa Barbara Junior Golf Tour Championship.
Pate will take a nine-shot lead into the second round on Monday at Montecito Country Club.
In the Girls 14-over Division, Vanesa Villa shot an 88 and has a commmanding lead.
Tanner Guerra shot a 77 and holds a three-shot advantage over Jonathan Collins, Erik Thorbecke and Grant Amerson in the Boys 16-over Division.
Michael Nam leads Nicholas Nielsen by one shot (83-84) in the Boys 14-15 group.
Christopher Wong fired an 87 to take the lead in the 12-13 bracket.
