The brother combination of Owen and Evan Yoshimoto dominated the 18-under bracket at the California Beach Volleyball Association’s Quiksilver Performance-Roxy Athletix Tour stop at East Beach on Tuesday.The Yoshimotos took down the Santa Barbara team of Alex Biedul and Holden Ploch, 28-16, to capture the title and earn a spot in the Quiksilver Performance-Roxy Athletix Cal Cup Championships in Manhattan Beach on Sept. 4.Winners in all divisions Tuesday qualified for the Cal Cup.The … [Read more...]

U.S. swimming star Lezak does things his own way

Fomer UCSB swimming star Jason Lezak is featured in a USA Today story.At 35, Lezak is the elder on the U.S. team competing at the FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China.He is known for his stirring anchor relay leg in the 4x100 freestyle relay at the 2008 Olympics, when he caught France’s Alain Bernard in the last 25 meters and out-touched him at the finish. Foresters split doubleheader, raise some bucks

Seventeen innings of baseball provided for a long day on Sunday, as the Santa Barbara Foresters struggled offensively and split a doubleheader with the visiting Menlo Park Legends. If  it turns out that Jeff Hesselmeyer died of a heart attack, it is the  saddest of ironies. Todd-Phil win All-American final in Canada

Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser were back on top of the FIVB World Tour podium as the local pro beach volleyball team won the Quebec Open in Canada on Sunday.Fittingly, it was an All-American podium in the only international tour event in North America.
